We all have a love-hate relationship with our baby bush down there. Sometimes we let it be, sometimes we prune it up, and sometimes we simply want to get rid of it–completely. Now, your pubic-hair grooming style is a personal choice but if you’re currently in the ‘glabrous V-zone’ state of mind, we’ve got you covered. Here’s all the info you need on how to remove pubic hair with a detailed analysis of the pros and cons of each hair-removal method. Check it out:

How To Remove Pubic Hair

Choosing a pubic hair removal option isn’t as easy as choosing one for your limbs. The sensitive genital skin calls for more attention and precaution. And of course, the process is way more painful. So how should you remove your pubic hair? Should you make a bikini wax appointment at the salon? Grab a razor? Give hair removal creams a try? Let’s weigh in on all the options:

Trimming

Unsplash

The hair on your external genitalia–vulva and labia–traps the infection-causing bacteria (from sweat and dirt) and keeps them from entering the vagina. So now, if you’re considering taming your bush instead of removing it, trimming is a great option. It’s also one of the simplest and safest methods. Follow these steps to get it right:

How To Do It

Step 1: Clean Your Tools

The golden rule of safe pubic hair grooming is to make sure that anything that comes in contact with your sensitive genitalia is cleaned thoroughly. So start by sanitising the trimmer blade by dipping it into a disinfectant for at least ten minutes.

Step 2: Get Your Pubes Ready

Before you start trimming, make sure to clean your pubic area thoroughly with a gentle intimate wash and water. This will remove the harmful bacteria and keep bumps, irritation, and infections at bay.

Step 3: Trim It Up

Hold your trimmer firmly and place it at a 30-degree angle with your genital skin. Always use it in the direction of your hair growth. Doing so helps prevent cuts and burns and gives you smoother results.

Step 4: Clean Up

Once done, make sure to rinse off your pubic region with water and wipe it properly with a clean towel. Lastly, apply a gentle moisturiser to nourish the sensitive area.

Shaving

If you’re wondering how to remove pubic hair without pain and mess, shaving is your answer. It’s quick, easy, and can be done anytime. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you shave your pubic hair safely:

How To Do It

Step 1: Bathe & Exfoliate

Taking a hot shower before shaving softens the hair and loosens the hair follicles. This helps you get a closer shave. Exfoliating the pubic area with a loofah or a gentle scrub will help you get rid of dead skin and sebum clogging the hair follicles. This will give your razor a smoother surface to glide on and as a result, you will get a closer shave.

Step 2: Lather Up

Excess friction with the razor blades can irritate your sensitive genital skin and cause cuts, burns, irritation, and redness. So always use a pH-balanced shaving cream or a mild soap to lubricate the skin so that the razor moves smoothly on the skin.

Step 3: Get Set Go

Grab a fresh razor with sharp blades for the best result. Again, shave in the direction of the hair growth. Going against the grain means your razor has to lift the hair before cutting it at the follicle. This leads to razor burn, cuts, and irritation.

Step 4: Moisturise

Your freshly-shaved pubic area needs immediate hydration to regain the lost moisture. So once you’re done washing and wiping it, apply a gentle moisturiser to rehydrate and calm the sensitive skin.

Waxing

Waxing removes the hair from its root so it takes more time to appear on the surface when it grows back. But if you’re wondering how to remove pubic hair with this process on your own, we’ve got to tell you that it’s no easy feat. It’s painful and accessing the lower part of your pubic hair isn’t that easy. We’d say, let the professionals handle it.

How To Do It

For starters, fix an appointment at a trusted salon. Make sure they use a clean knife, fresh wax, and towels during the process. Pro tip: Feel free to hold on to your parlour aunty when she mercilessly pulls off that strip. Ouch!

Hair Removal Cream

Unsplash

Next up, is our answer to how to remove pubic hair using a hair removal cream. For the unversed, you can DIY and use a cream that’s suitable for sensitive skin down there. And nope, a good-quality cream won’t cause pigmentation and darkening. Follow these steps:

How To Do It

Step 1: Do A Patch Test

Test the product on a small patch of your hand or arm to check for any allergic reaction or irritation. If it goes well, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Apply The Cream

Clean your pubic area with mild soap and water, and pat it dry. Now, using a spatula, apply a thick, even layer of wax on the pubic region. Do not rub it in. Once you are done applying, remember to wash your hands immediately.

Step 3: Remove The Cream

Keep the cream on for about five minutes. Now, remove the cream from a small patch using the spatula just to check if the hair is coming off. If it does, remove the cream from the rest of the area with the spatula first and then use lukewarm water to wash the pubic region. If not, leave it on for five more minutes before you remove it. Pat it dry and you are all done.
