Female masturbation is one of the most misunderstood things around us. It is not a common topic of conversation since the idea of women’s self-pleasure itself is a challenge to the patriarchal views of sex and intimacy. This has resulted in female masturbation getting shrouded in a ton of myths.

Masturbation is not just a safe way to attain pleasure on your own but also has multiple benefits. So let’s look at some cold hard facts about female masturbation.

Facts About Female Masturbation

It is OK if you don’t orgasm

Masturbation doesn’t have to end with an orgasm always and there’s nothing wrong with you if you find yourself unable to reach the big O during a self-pleasure session. All it means is that whatever you’re doing isn’t working out for you. Even though there is no “correct” way to masturbate, perhaps it’s time to experiment with toys or play out a new fantasy.

Better mental health is one of the effects of female masturbation

Like most sexual activities, masturbation also triggers the release of good hormones from the brain’s pleasure centre. Hormones such as dopamine, oxytocin, endorphin, and serotonin can reduce feelings of depression and anxiety, even boosting your self-esteem.

Your menstrual cramps can get better through masturbation

While any type of sexual activity is the last thing on your mind when you are on periods, giving yourself some self-love when menstruating can ease menstrual cramps. It releases oxytocin, the feel-good hormone that naturally relieves pain and helps tackle the worst period cramps.

It can ease menopausal issues

Dealing with issues caused due to menopause is difficult. But masturbation might help with some of them.

If sexual intercourse feels extraordinarily painful for you during menopause, masturbation is a possible solution. Masturbation can boost blood flow, libido, and also relieve tissue and moisture problems that post-menopausal women usually struggle with.

It can help you sleep better

For many, indulging in masturbation is a common thing to do before hitting the bed. This is mainly because your brain releases a mix of neurochemicals, including oxytocin, serotonin, vasopressin, and prolactin that prepare your body to sleep.

Myths About Female Masturbation

Here are some of the common misconceptions about female masturbation you shouldn’t believe in:

 Masturbation causes infertility

Regardless of your age, there is no evidence that masturbation can impact hormones to the extent that it affects your fertility or pregnancy.

Masturbation damages your genitals

Unless you are doing it too roughly or using sharp toys, masturbation won’t hurt you and you have nothing to worry about.

Masturbation will make you go blind

Myths like these were popularized when people believed sex was only meant for procreation. Masturbation is absolutely safe, and there is no way you can go blind as a result.

Masturbation is like cheating on your partner

Self-pleasure is not a dirty word, and you can safely masturbate even if you are in a committed relationship. Just because you masturbate doesn’t mean your partner is not doing a good job in bed. It simply means that you have different sexual desires which are perfectly healthy and normal. In fact, some enjoy watching their partners masturbate — so don’t hesitate to explore your body as a part of foreplay.

It can result in acne breakouts

Apart from hormones, sebum plays an important role in acne breakouts. As masturbation has no impact on your sebum glands, hence, it cannot lead to pimples.

Is mastrubation healthy? Yes, it is! The whole act of masturbation is all about exploring your body. So don’t fall for baseless myths and enjoy the journey of self-pleasure.

Which one of the above-mentioned myths have you heard of?

Comment below and be a part of the conversation.
